Wedding joy for major Emmerdale couple amid Christmas Day public proposal

People trafficking. Drugs. Love triangles, surrogacy lies and secret husbands breaking out of prison to attack you with a sword. After a year like that, the Emmerdale villagers of the Dales are well over due a bit of joy… and what better way to bring joy than with a Christmas Day proposal?

Emmerdale has already teased a cracker of a Christmas exploding with drama; Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) and Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) are targeted by a mystery stalker, the truth about Charity’s (Emma Atkins) baby secret is set to be revealed, Ray (Joe Absolom) and Celia (Jaye Griffiths) are plotting their escape, and two deadly enemies face off in a fight to the death.

In the midst of all this madness, one villager gets down on one knee and proposes to their beloved. But which lucky pair of love birds will have wedding Bells Jingling all the way?

Bosses are tight lipped on which couple is getting hitched, but there’s a few potential candidates…

Most notably, our beloved Robron. Aaron Dingle and Robert Sugden. True, they have been married already. However, their marriage was plagued with issues – and that issue was called Kev. Kev Towsend (Christopher Coghill) to be precise, armed robber, jailhouse hubby and easily the most terrifying psychopath ever to pull of a man-bun.

But after the aforementioned incident with a sword, Robert and Aaron sent Kev slinking out of the Dales with a broken heart, and everything’s been hunky dory since. So hunky dory in fact, that the couple will soon be contemplating bringing Robert’s son Seb back into their lives.

This makes an enemy out of Ross Barton (Michael Parr) the closet thing the tot has ever had to a dad. Has the ordeal that is 20025 only made Robron stronger? So when Rob mysteriously goes missing on Christmas Day… is it to fetch a wedding ring?

Second on the list is Ray and Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy). Whilst they’re a relatively new couple, Ray is genuinely drawn to the stable, down-to-earth family life that Laurel represents – a family life that you don’t exactly get when your mother is a cold-hearted crime boss with a farm full of people trapped in domestic slavery.

With their twisted family business under threat of exposure, Ray and Celia have been cooking up a plan to pack up and leave Emmerdale for greener criminal pastures. What we do know is that Ray can’t bear saying goodbye without meeting Laurel for a fake ‘Christmas lunch’. Will he pop the question before pudding to choose a better life?

Next up is Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) and Dawn (Olivia Bromley). They say the best relationships start with friends – in which case, #Jawn is a bit of a non-starter. These two have had more ups and downs than a drive to the Dingle Cottage, with their meet-cute being a passionate affair between the pair which ended in Dawn leaving her husband Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle).

Of course, that was before Dawn pushed Joe out of a window for threatening her friend’s daughter Clemmie (Mabel Addison). But Joe covered for her and their unlikely relationship bloomed despite the severe disapproval Joe’s dear old grandma, Lady of the Manor Kim Tate (Claire King). Is Christmas time finally their time?

Finally, Charity. Hear me out. I am perfectly aware that she’s already married to the delightful Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) – but that didn’t stop the devious Dingle’s fateful fling with Ross Barton.

Can’t wait for the next twist?

So far, Charity’s just about managed to pretend she’s pregnant with Sarah (Katie Hill) and Jacob’s (Joe-Warren Plant) surrogate baby.

But word in the Dales is that secret’s set to blow over Christmas. If that’s true, does Ross make a shock proposal to keep what could be his unborn child in his life?

What about Vanessa? She and Charity have been getting closer again lately… so much so that Charity confided her baby secret in her old flame.

Emmerdale bosses have already let slip that Charity is stuck with a tipsy Vanessa on Christmas Day. Does she get tipsy enough to propose marriage to a married woman?

Hey, it’s not the craziest thing that’s ever happened to Charity!
