EASTENDERS’ Doctor Anthony Trueman star Nicholas Bailey has broken his silence on signing up to Strictly’s Christmas special.

The Sun were first to reveal that the actor, 54, had joined the festive line-up alongside names including All Saints’ Melanie Blatt and Scarlett Moffat.

Ever year millions of viewers tune in on Christmas Day to watch a batch of stars do battle on the dancefloor.

Much like the regular show, they must impress the judges in order to secure top scores.

Nicholas is one of those celebrities taking to the dancefloor this festive season.

The soap star will be swapping Albert Square for the Strictly Christmas ballroom alongside his pro dance partner Luba Mushtuk.

He was officially announced today, and the actor has now broken his silence on signing up.

“‘I’m really excited to be doing this, almost as excited as my wife and daughters are!”‘ Nicholas told the BBC.

“Hopefully I’ll do them, Albert Square and Luba proud. Bring on the dancefloor.”

The Sun were first to reveal that Nicholas had signed up to this year’s Strictly Christmas special..

A source said: “Nicholas has one of TV’s most recognisable faces but has never really stepped outside the character of Doctor Trueman.

“This will be the first time he’s really strode out as Nicholas so this will be lots of fun for fans.

“He’s quite the hunk, too, and has theatre experience which he showed off on Soapstar Superstar in 2006, so he looks set to put on a great show.”

Nicholas is of course best known for his role as Dr Trueman in EastEnders.

He first arrived on Albert Square in 2000, before quitting three years later.

However, over the years Nicholas has returned to the soap several times.

He then arrived back into Walford earlier this year for his dad Patrick and Yolande’s wedding.

Meanwhile, actor Nicholas’ signing comes after a string of exciting reveals.

The Sun told how Gladiators star Fury, real name Jodie Ounsley, was also preparing to pull on her sequins for the Christmas special.

All Saints star Melanie Blatt was announced on Scott Mills’ Radio 2 breakfast show yesterday.

Last Friday, The Sun revealed Scarlett Moffatt had signed up, which she then discussed on Strictly spin-off, It Takes Two.
