Coronation Street star Sally Dynevor has thanked loyal fans for their support in a major personal endeavour she is undertaking with her son, who made a rare cameo in one of her social media posts recently.

The actress, most famous for her portrayal of Weatherfield favourite Sally Metcalfe – formerly Webster – on the ITV soap, announced earlier this year that she and her son, Sam, were gearing up for an enormous challenge.

This November marks 16 years since the 62-year-old soap favourite was diagnosed with breast cancer and during the same month, Sally will be accompanied by her son to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.

The inactive Tanzanian volcano stands as the tallest free-standing mountain above sea level globally, and the highest in Africa, reaching 5,895m.

Taking to Instagram, Sally posted at the time: “My son Sam and I have some news! We will be climbing the world’s tallest freestanding mountain, Kilimanjaro in September for @preventbreastcancer.

Coronation Street star Sally Dynevor has been flooded with more messages of support

“It will be 16 years since my diagnosis. Like so many other families, we never thought this would happen to us, but it did. Help us break the cycle of breast cancer.

“Anything you can donate would go directly to @preventbreastcancer. JustGiving link in bio.”

The charitable endeavour follows Sally’s own battle with breast cancer, reports the Manchester Evening News.

She received her diagnosis in November 2009, whilst simultaneously filming devastating Corrie storylines, which saw her beloved character grappling with news that she had contracted the same illness.

Having provided regular updates throughout her journey, Sally has now issued a heartfelt message of gratitude to those who have contributed to her fundraising efforts and demonstrated their backing thus far.

She also posted photographs of her late friend Morag Sillar, a Scottish actress who passed away from breast cancer, alongside her previous charitable endeavours.

And supporters flocked to demonstrate their backing for Sally.
