Very EMOTIONAL News!!! 25-Year Romance on the Rocks? Jack P Shepherd Trapped Between Coronation Street and BBC Offer – Will He Abandon His Iconic Role for a New Challenge? 💔

Coronation Street favourite Jack P Shepherd, best known for playing David Platt, has opened up about being invited to join another major reality series following his Celebrity Big Brother win earlier this year.

The actor, who has been a fixture on the ITV soap for 25 years, stunned fans when he entered Celebrity Big Brother — and went on to claim the crown, beating out a star-studded line-up including Danny BeardChris HughesJoJo SiwaDonna Preston, and Chesney Hawkes.

Now, fresh off that victory, Jack has revealed that he was also approached to appear on The Traitors, the BBC’s massively popular psychological competition showCoronation Street's Jack P Shepherd reveals Strictly 'ban' for one specific reason - Liverpool Echo

“I Got Asked About The Traitors”

Speaking on his On the Sofa podcast, which he co-hosts with Corrie co-stars Colson Smith and Ben Price, Jack made the surprise confession.

“I got asked about The Traitors — but I can’t because it’s BBC,” he revealed.

His admission came as the trio were discussing the hit show’s first-ever celebrity edition, which has become a breakout success for the BBC.

Ben immediately responded, “That’d be great! You’d be great in it, Jack.” But Jack quickly dismissed the idea with a laugh, saying, “I would be s**t!”

Colson chimed in, praising the show’s gripping format and hinting that he might be angling for a future appearance himself.

“I texted the casting producer after the first episode saying, ‘F***ing good cast.’ She called me a brown-nose, and I said, ‘P.S. available if you want me,’” he joked.Coronation Street's David Platt gets a hug and kiss from Natalie as his new admirer storyline begins

Why Jack Can’t Take Part

Despite clearly being on the BBC’s radar, Jack explained that network restrictions make it impossible for him to join. As a full-time ITV star, his contract prevents him from appearing on shows produced by rival broadcasters like the BBC.

The actor previously clarified the same point when asked which other reality shows he’d consider. At the National Television Awards, he told reporters:

“I wouldn’t ever want to do Dancing on Ice, but that’s finished now. Strictly Come Dancing? No, that’s on the BBC. You have to leave ITV for that.”Jack P. Shepherd with his award for Best Actor attending the Inside Soap Awards 2018 held at 100 Wardour Street, Soho, London Stock Photo - Alamy

Life After the Big Brother Win

Jack’s victory on Celebrity Big Brother marked his first foray into reality television — and a hugely successful one. Fans praised his down-to-earth humour and sharp wit, qualities that have made David Platt one of Coronation Street’s most beloved and complex characters.

Since leaving the Big Brother house, Jack has continued to balance his podcast work and his ongoing storylines on the cobbles, where his character remains central to several major plots.

And while The Traitors might be off-limits for now, it’s clear that reality TV producers have taken notice.

As Ben joked on the podcast, “The trick to shows like that is to look like you’re not bothered.”
To which Jack quipped back, “Yeah, I’m definitely not bothered — honest!”
