Coronation Street has told fans she ‘gets it’ as she responded to the negative reaction surrounding Leanne Battersby’s possible next move in Weatherfield.
Those who follow the ITV soap will know that the character is played by actress Jane Danson, with her making her debut in the role back in 1997 as the new ‘neighbours from hell’ arrived on the cobbles.
Jane made her arrival as Leanne alongside the character’s father Les, step-mum Janice and step-sister Toyah, with the foursome brought in to shake up the cobbles. Jane has since spent almost 30 years on the famous Street but last week, viewers saw Leanne contemplating a move.
After looking out for Megan Walsh have figured out she was pregnant and looking at having an abortion, Leanne opened up to Eva Price and admitted to feeling lonely and unhappy with her role at Speed Daal.
She then announced her plan to leave Weatherfield and sell her share of the business. But having only recently returned herself, Eva suggested a way Leanne could reignite her life on the cobbles – but running the Rovers Return together. While she questioned if Maggie Driscoll would sell, Eva told Leanne that she hated it there so couldn’t see why she’d have any issues.
With Leanne’s new plan in mind, Corrie fans were quick to respond – and some were more impressed than others. Over on the show’s Instagram page, one viewer commented: “Please God no. I can’t take anymore Leanne.” Having seen the comment, Jane responded simply with the emoji that showed a face with its tongue stuck out and a winking eye.

It led the original poster to explain themsleves, to which the actress replied in good spirit: “I get it – she annoys me too [crying laughing emoji] but I have to love her.”
It comes months after she called out ‘pathetic’ rumours circulating online about her Corrie future. Jane called for a Facebook group to ‘stop making up stories and quoting cast members saying things that haven’t been said.’
She added: “Apparently I’ve been axed from the show and have a written a letter to say how upset I am. First of all, if I have been ‘axed’ surely I would have been told? Had almost 30 years of people feeling the need to say what they want or making up stories and I’ve never bitten back but I’ve had enough of reading absolute c***. Just stop it, it’s pathetic.”
She added: “And please stop believing the 99 per cent nonsense these sites keep spinning. It can be so damaging and it’s really unkind. Think before you type.”
