SOAP TRAGEDY EastEnders fans terrified Nigel Bates has died as he appears to drown in the bath amid dementia battle
EASTENDERS fans have been left terrified for Nigel Bates after upsetting scenes saw the beloved character appear to drown in the bath.
The legendary character – who is played by actor Paul Bradley in the BBC soap – has been declining due to dementia and is being cared for by wife Julie and best friend Phil Mitchell.


Viewers know that Julie and Phil are preparing for Nigel to move into a care home after his dementia progressed making it almost impossible for them to give him the care he needs.
And after clashing over their differing opinions on what should happen to Nigel, the pair came together today to put their differences aside.
After coming to an agreement about Nigel and Julie renewing their vows, Julie got the moment she wanted with Phil helping Nigel say his vows.
And then she asked him to take him home, knowing that the event would be too much for him.

Phil brought him back and ran him a bath before helping him into it and then leaving him to it to talk to Julie.
He sent her back to enjoy the party while he sorted Nigel.
However he got distracted talking to Mark who confessed to telling Julie about Phil’s plan to take Nigel to Portugal.
But upstairs Nigel was in a dangerous situation as he fell asleep in the bath.
He slipped under the water, appearing to drown in a devastating cliffhanger.
Fans were left upset by the scenes with one writing: “Did Nigel just… #EastEnders”


A second said: “I knew something would happen to Nigel .. #EastEnders”
Another added: “I really hope Nigel is ok after tonight’s Duff Duff 😢💔. We can’t lose him yet and his scenes for tomorrow are embargoed 👀#EastEnders”
