EMMERDALE’S Mandy Dingle will be disappearing from screens as actress Lisa Riley takes a break to appear on I’m A Celebrity.

The actress has agreed to enter the jungle after years of being approached by show bosses.

And now The Sun can reveal how her character Mandy will exit the show temporarily.

A source said: “Mandy’s exit will be lowkey and very brief.

“Lisa filmed her scenes last week, Mandy goes to visit friends and will be back before you know it.

“She’ll be back filming full throttle once she’s back from her trip down under too. Fans won’t have long to wait for her return once the scenes air next year.”

Actress Lisa landed in Brisbane on Sunday and revealed she was excited to be taking part in the show.

Lisa joked that she was returning to Australia to film a new version of 1997 special episode Emmerdale: The Dingles Down Under.

She said of the special, which saw her family travel to Oz: “We did Dingles Down Under many years ago so it’s only fair that we do Dingles Down Under again, I feel.

“I’m a Dingle – I can cope with anything, I’m from the North!

“Us Northerners, we’re made of tough skin. Definitely.”

Lisa said she will be unfazed by creepy-crawlies, saying: “I’ve worked on a farm for many years on Emmerdale – it’s part of the job being Mandy Dingle I suppose.

“I’m just here to have fun and a real good laugh.”

She said she wanted to see “lots of lovely, lovely people” as she is a “people person”.

Lisa, 49, has never hidden her desire to go into the jungle either.

A TV insider said: “Lisa is the perfect celebrity for the show because not only is she from a soap watched by millions she’s one of its biggest characters and it’s an ITV show to boot.

“She also has a naughty, mischievous sense of humour which is guaranteed to get a big response from her other celebrity campmates during their time in the jungle.

“Lisa is by no means the first star from Emmerdale to have gone on I’m a Celebrity and those that do always tend to get a great response from viewers at home.”
