Sister Wives’ Meri Brown discusses the emotional toll of Kody’s expanding family during her fertility journey

Sister Wives star Meri Brown recently opened up about the emotional toll of watching her then-sister wives conceive while she struggled with fertility issues.

During the January 25, 2026, episode of Sister Wives: One-on-One, she spoke with reunion host Sukanya Krishnan about the pain she carried for years.

Meri said the experience deeply affected her sense of self within the plural marriage. As her husband, now ex, Kody Brown, continued to expand his family, she felt increasingly alone.

The repeated pregnancy announcements became a constant reminder of what she could not have.

She told Sukanya that as Kody continued to grow his family, she felt as if “something was wrong with me.” That belief followed her for decades.

Meri married Kody in 1990. She would later give birth to their only child, Leon, born in 1995.

Then she could not get pregnant again. Meanwhile, Kody fathered numerous children with his other wives.

Janelle and Christine each have six children with Kody, while his current wife Robyn has five.

The difference left Meri feeling inferior and outside the circle. After a history of heartache, Meri said goodbye to her marriage to Kody in 2022 and elected to pursue a new chapter on her own.

Sister Wives season 20: Meri admits she questioned herself for not being able to conceive

While opening up to the Sister Wives host, Meri confessed that there were moments in her marriage when she felt she could do nothing right.

“There were definitely times in my life that I didn’t feel like anything that I could do was right. Like, I couldn’t even have a baby,” she said.

She began to question herself and her capacity, all because she could have a child like the others could. Her concerns deepened, and her self-criticism intensified.

Even after Leon’s birth, the pain did not fade. She said:

“Then I couldn’t have anymore.”

While she navigated her infertility, her husband’s family grew, which made things more difficult for her.

Meri admitted that she began to question her value within the marriage. The Sister Wives star explained that Kody’s other wives never accused her of being wrong for her feelings. But even so, she felt less understood.

“I don’t think that any of them thought I was wrong… But I don’t know how empathetic they were with it,” she mentioned.

The only wife left, Robyn, also had some feelings about it. She revealed that the family tried to walk on eggshells around pregnancy for Meri.

They would stay in line to tell Meri about their pregnancies first so she would have the time to process the news.

She added that they intended to support and love Meri. It was why Robyn said she even offered to be Meri’s surrogate in case she wanted more children in her life.

Despite those efforts, Meri said the heartbreak remained heavy. She described how painful it was to watch her husband have children with other women.

“It’s one thing to watch my sisters or friends have babies when I want them. It’s a whole other level to watch my husband have them with other people,” she confessed.

Recalling the difficult moments in her marriage, Meri also spoke about Kody and Janelle’s decision to marry on her birthday.

While they felt it would not be a big deal to celebrate the birthday some other day, Meri felt otherwise.

It was only after Kody’s mother’s intervention that Janelle and Kody changed their decision. Meri revealed that much of her discomfort with polygamy emerged from how she was treated by Kody and the other wives.
