A war is brewing in Emmerdale as newcomer Kev Townsend goes head-to-head with Aaron Dingle in the battle for Robert Sugden’s affections. Robert’s prison husband has destroyed all chance of a Robron happy ending in the immediate future, just weeks after the supercouple’s ordeal with evil John Sugden.

While Kev’s presence in the village has often been played for laughs over the past few weeks, there’s a shift in the story tonight as we get a glimpse of what he’s really capable of. So, is Aaron in danger? And is Robert taking a major risk by stringing him along in the hope of a £250,000 inheritance payout further on down the line?

1. Kev is accused of assault

Kev is claiming to be a changed man thanks to Robert’s positive influence, but it seems that he could be stringing his hubby along by claiming to have turned his back on violent outbursts and intimidation.

In tonight’s episode, no-nonsense DS Carter visits the village and bombards Kev with questions about a suspicious attack against one of his old friends.

2. Kev hits a new low

At The Woolpack, tensions simmer as Robert and Kev arrive for drinks while Aaron and Chas are both present. The couple had previously hoped to keep their romantic connection quiet around the other villagers, but that plan has now gone out of the window thanks to the public row last week and subsequent gossip from Nicola King.

Barbed comments are exchanged at The Woolpack as Aaron and Kev clash over Robert. But Kev takes it way too far by taunting Aaron about his traumatic past.

Aaron’s stunned to realise that Robert has told Kev about his historic ordeal with his abusive father Gordon. Can they ever move past this ultimate betrayal?

3. Aaron’s chilled by a death threat

Kev’s next move sees him turn up at Aaron’s flat for another tense showdown over who’s best for Robert.

The showdown escalates when Kev shows his true colours yet again, issuing a terrifying death threat to Aaron! But is it all a bluff, or would he really go through with it?

Chris Coghill, who’s playing the role of Kev, recently spoke about the ongoing mystery of what his character is truly capable of – and how seriously to take his threats.

“Kev is unhinged. There are genuine feelings there [for Robert], but they’re not quite what they should be,” Chris told us.

“He’s an incredibly dangerous person. Kev wouldn’t have any qualms about physically attacking anybody, apart from possibly Robert.

“One day I can be a psychopath and the next day I’m doing something quite touching like baking cakes.

“When I was offered it and I was told he dies, I thought: ‘I like Emmerdale and I’d like to be around for a bit, so I’d want to come and do something that had some potential longevity’.

“But when I was told what the character was and I came in and was told they weren’t meeting anybody else I thought, ‘Actually, this sounds like a right laugh’.”
