ROY’S ODDITIES Coronation Street fans spot unusual menu item at Roy Cropper’s cafe asking ‘what the HELL is that?’
CORONATION Street fans were left scratching their heads after spotting an unusual menu item in Roy Cropper’s cafe.
Eagle-eyed viewers spotted the sandwich option during Monday’s episode of the ITV soap.
The scene saw Roy in his eponymous cafe serving up some food, but Corrie fans were too distracted by the menu behind him, which mentioned a cheese and celery sandwich.
TikTok user MeetMaxineTV shared a grab from the scene and marvelled at the sandwich option.
“Right I’m Northern but what the bloody hell is a cheese and celery sandwich and why’s it only £2.50 to dine in? Surely the stringy celery would choke you to death?”
Other Corrie fans joined the conversation in the comment section of the TikTok, with some vouching for the sandwich’s tastiness and others admitting they’d never heard of it.

“I had to Google it when I saw it and yep, apparently its a real thing,” wrote one person in the comments.
Another added: “A cheese and celery sandwich is ELITE the M&S one is my absolute go to.”
And a third person commented: “Oh that takes me back. Used to have a cheese and celery sandwich back in the day!”
The cheese and celery sandwich began to appear on menus and in recipe books in the early 20th century.
It is usually made on malted bread with cheddar cheese, pepper and crisp celery, and finished with mayonnaise or cream cheese.
Roy – who is played by actor David Neilson in the ITV soap – has run Roy’s Rolls for almost three decades since arriving in Weatherfield.

MeetMaxineTV’s recent observation is not the only time Corrie fans have been distracted by the menu offerings at the cafe.
In 2023, one fan took to X, then Twitter, and penned: “Only place in the UK where inflation hasn’t hit food prices. ITV Corrie Curry and Rice £3.75 Pie, Chips & Peas £2.60. Bargain.”
The fan shared a screenshot from a Corrie episode at the time, which featured a scene inside Roy’s Rolls, which showed Roy on the phone with the menu and prices behind him.
On the menu a curry and rice costs £3.75, while pie, chips, and peas are only £2.60.
