Coronation Street‘s upcoming festive episode looks set to feature a cameo return from a show legend. Gail Chadwick exited the soap almost exactly a year ago on Christmas Day, though it appears she will be back for a one-off appearance for this year’s Christmas episode.

According to The Sun, Gail will return for the appearance as she takes the opportunity to reconnect with her family in the festive season (and for her son David’s birthday, of course) though further details are under wraps for now. Helen Worth has reportedly already filmed her scenes.

The last time viewers saw Gail, she departed for France with new husband Jesse Chadwick, though the Platts have had their struggles since the matriarch exited.

In April this year, David and Shona gave an update on the newlyweds after visiting them in France, Shona saying that everything appears to be well with the couple.

Following her departure, Helen said in an emotional video message: “Thanks for coming on the journey with me. I’ve had a wonderful time. I’ve loved it all.

“All the stories, and of course, working with the wonderful Platts, which, for me, is what it’s all about. And there’ll be more Platt stories, and I hope you’ll be watching. Lots of love and thanks from me. Bye.”

The star’s final speech on set was also revealed to fans in a video, Helen saying: “The reason I’ve been here all these years, and it’s a lot of years – it’s more than I can think about really, is because of all of you people that have been here for, well, some of you for all of those 50 years and others for half of that time.

“But I couldn’t have done any of it without you. I really couldn’t. You are the most amazing team of people, and I really do say thank you.

“And as for this lot, who didn’t tell me [about this]. Oh God, I love them so much. I don’t quite know what I’m going to do without you. But thank you for everything.”
