HOTTES NEWS TODAY!!! Coronation Street airs major change in Todd and Theo’s dark storyline tonight

Coronation Street opens a new chapter of Todd Grimshaw and Theo Silverton’s disturbing storyline tonight – as the local residents start to realise that something isn’t right in their relationship. As police are called to the cobbles following reports of a domestic disturbance, is Todd any closer to being saved from his ongoing nightmare?

The latest visit to Weatherfield focuses entirely on Todd and Theo’s relationship and the unsettling incidents that have been taking place behind closed doors. Last week, George Shuttleworth and Christina Boyd were alerted to trouble between the couple when Gary Windass heard a crash coming from their flat.

In tonight’s episode, the action flashes back to key moments which have taken place between Todd and Theo in recent weeks. All of these are shown through the point of view of in-universe cameras, including Todd’s secret spycams, CCTV, doorbell footage and police bodycams.

When Theo’s abusive behaviour reaches frightening new heights, a row is overheard and someone calls the police to raise concerns over what’s going on.

An arrest is ultimately made against one party and the neighbours become suspicious, but is Theo any closer to being brought to justice or will everyone get the wrong idea over who the aggressor is?

Gareth Pierce, who plays Todd, recently previewed the unique format by telling us: “We were discovering how to play to that style of filming ‘on the job’, so it felt like an exciting collaborative adventure for all departments.

“I think I anticipated it might feel like we were watching Corrie characters through a haze, a slight step further back from the action, but it actually has the opposite effect where it feels like it brings us closer, like we’re eavesdropping on our characters and seeing something we shouldn’t.

“I haven’t seen the full episode yet, but the bits I have seen are very effective and disorientating.”

James Cartwright, who plays Theo, added: “Domestic violence is real for a lot of people, it often escalates around Christmas, so there’s a real level of respect on the set.

“You’ve got to tread that line between drama, storytelling and authenticity. It will be very challenging to watch for anybody who’s been through it, or is going through something similar, but we also have to be careful not to rush it or you run the risk of doing a disservice to people who’ve been through it.”
