HOT NEWS!!! Coronation Street lines up dark Christmas – as Becky’s dangerous obsession escalates

Coronation Street newcomer Amy Cudden has spoken about her dramatic Christmas storyline for the first time – as fans brace themselves for what her character Becky Swain is really capable of. Show bosses have tipped Becky as one to watch over the festive season, as her sinister plot to reclaim her family escalates in dramatic fashion.

Becky’s journey in the show takes a shocking turn imminently, so there’s not long to wait for answers! In Wednesday’s episode (3 December), she tries to kill her nemesis DI Costello, just as the team at Weatherfield General are preparing to bring him out of his coma. From then on, it’s clear that Becky will stop at nothing to get her own way…

Amy has now addressed this jaw-dropping moment in the latest edition of Soap Scoop – the weekly soaps podcast from Inside Soap magazine with cast interviews every Tuesday.

Discussing Becky’s antics, Amy admitted: “She goes all the way up to 11!

“Basically, I think Becky has zero self-esteem. She really doesn’t like herself. Her family make her an okay person – like literally, just okay! So nothing can get in the way of that, because that need is so great.

“Becky is also probably bit of a narcissist. She’s able to dehumanise people to some extent. She’s obviously dehumanised Carla. She absolutely does the same to Costello. They become obstacles rather than people and whatever she does is to get her family back.

“We all spin ourselves narratives, don’t we? Like if we do something wrong, we’ve got a narrative ready to defend it. Becky’s narrative is: ‘No-one can take care of my family like I can’.

“So if that’s the mantra that’s running through her head, then anything is admissible. Anything is allowable. I don’t condone any of her actions, but I have to be able to empathise with the level of need that she has to get her family back, to complete herself.”

Last week, Coronation Street released a set of cryptic Christmas spoilers, which revealed that Becky will step up her attempts to win over Lisa and Betsy now that Carla is out of the picture.

While this unfolds, Carla’s social media accounts are filled with pictures from her holiday in Lanzarote – but is everything as it seems?

Amy added: “I would say Becky’s need for it to be a perfect family Christmas is on the same level as the feeling that has driven her to do all of these bad things.

“So if Christmas doesn’t go well and she doesn’t get that picture perfect, ‘reunited under the Christmas tree, singing carols, making and eating mince pies’, it could tip her over the edge!”
