Poor Kate. As she wrestles with her complicated feelings at finding out that Days of Our Lives archvillain (and her ex-husband) Stefano DiMera is well and truly dead (allegedly), she also has to contend with Roman and Marlena’s closeness. The day of the memorial, Roman offered his ex comfort instead of his current wife. And that sent an annoyed Kate off running.
Roman apologized later, but it’s not the first time recently that Kate’s gotten annoyed seeing how much her husband is supporting Marlena. So far, she’s kept her mouth shut, and today she just blamed her storming out on Stefano’s memorial. But it’s clear, she’s not happy, and this could end up ballooning into a huge problem.

So naturally, when Soaps.com had a chance to talk to Josh Taylor and, shortly after, Deidre Hall, we had to ask if Kate had reason to be worried!
Taylor made no bones about there still being love between Roman and Marlena, “But I’ve always analogized it this way: Marlena — and I’m glad this happened — Marlena and Roman became close, close friends. And it’s kind of like the way I am with my ex-wife in real life. There is that connection, both from marriage and having kids to developing into very trustworthy and dependable friends. She knows I’ll always be there for her, and I know she’ll always be there for me.”
It’s love, but not necessarily the same kind of love as when they were married and shared a life together. But, he added, it’s not completely mad to think that they could find that love once again.
“There are possibilities there,” Taylor noted, “because you have not just a great friendship, but you have remembrances of when it was more than friendship. And I think there’s still those inside.” As he put it: “Never say never in Salem. But we’ll see about that!”
We then asked Hall if Kate has any reason to feel threatened by the friendship, and she made clear, “I think the answer is that it is a friendship. It’s a deep and caring and abiding friendship. But if they wanted to be together, they’d be together.”

When we told Hall about Taylor’s suggestion that there are “possibilities,” she just deadpanned, “I’ll talk to Josh,” then burst out laughing. “He is so cute! I love working with him. Maybe that’s why he thinks it. I love working with him, he’s just the dreamiest.”
This is, of course, a soap opera, and, as Hall shared, “I don’t know what the writers have in mind. But I don’t see that as a possibility. I think it’s just historical. They were together for so many years and so deeply love each other and care about each other that it’s more compassion.”
With that said, Kate’s going to feel how she’s going to feel. And in the end Taylor did acknowledge that the friendship could cause problems with Kate. “But” he added with a laugh, “Kate’s doing good enough on that!”
Fair enough! She is, after all, messing with Johnny. And despite her claim at Stefano’s memorial that she’s doing it to make Roman happy and get his grandson away from DiMera, we don’t see him being happy about her going behind his back!
