BREAKING NEWS!!! Coronation Street star addresses major Christina change in new story

Coronation Street stars Amy Robbins and Tony Maudsley have opened up about the major change in direction for Christina Boyd, which has paved the way for a beautiful romance story. Fans are now rooting for Christina and local undertaker George Shuttleworth, but we’d never have imagined it a year ago.

When Christina first joined Weatherfield in 2023, she didn’t make the greatest first impression, as she was a bad mum to fan favourite Daisy Midgeley. Even early last year, stories often focused on Christina’s selfish attitude.

These days, Christina is totally genuine in her new relationship with George. She’s also keeping an eye out for Todd Grimshaw, knowing just how important he is to her beloved partner.

Amy and Tony, who play the fun-loving couple, caught up with us at an exclusive Valentine’s Day photoshoot for Inside Soap magazine. You can see the pictures and full interview in this week’s issue, which is out on shelves and available for download now.

“I’ve found it fun and actually very interesting to see the other side of Christina,” Amy revealed. “I always had a feeling! When you’re playing a baddie, you always try to find the reason why they’re such a pain.

“Now we know why she’s such a pain – she’s just a bit insecure! I love finding that side to her. It’s just more fun to play, really – to be able to play the whole of somebody.”

She laughed: “[Christina’s] still a complete pain in the backside! But she has finally found someone to love – and to love her back. I don’t think she’s ever had that before. I think she’s been lonely for a long time and that’s why they work so well together.”

Chiming in, Tony added that he couldn’t be happier over the way things have turned out for George now that Christina is sticking around.

He laughed: “The trouble is, when you’re a baddie, you can’t stay! You have to get your comeuppance. So it’s good that you’ve redeemed yourself! She is fun and she’s a great laugh, Christina. And even though you’ve become nice, you haven’t lost that mischievous edge.

“Weirdly, even though they’re very different people, they fit together quite well. I think they’re a bit like Alf and Audrey used to be. Audrey was a bad mother to Gail. Alf was her rock and she was very loyal to him.

“And I think Christina is very loyal to George. He loves her back, despite her flaws. I think secretly he enjoys her flaws – he’s amused by her!”
