MISERY STREET Coronation Street fans turn on soap legend saying they’re ‘sick of him’ as they slam latest storyline

CORONATION Street fans are turning on a soap legend after more than four decades on the cobbles.

Dour mechanic Kevin Webster is in the grips of depression, suffering a breakdown on the garage roof after wife Abi left him following her affair with his brother Carl.

To make matters worse, Kevin’s sister Debbie is siding with her secret son, Carl, despite him causing the fatal Corriedale car crash and gaslighting her over her dementia.

Though his fragile frame of mind is understandable, it is proving too much to bear for some after a string of storylines where he wronged his nearest and dearest.

One person wrote in a fan forum on Reddit: “Coronation Street really is Misery Street now. We literally, just had a depression storyline a few months ago with Asha, now we’re dealing with another one.

“And quite honestly, does anyone even feel sorry for him? Kevin has cheated on Sally twice and slept with his best friend’s partner. But when he gets karma and it happens to him, woe is me.”

Another agreed, again bringing up Kev’s habit of putting self before others.

“One of the most unlikable characters on the show,” they vented. “Remember when he blamed Abi for her own deepfakes? Got his best friend’s wife pregnant? He’s perpetually crusty and impatient. He doesn’t have one redeeming quality. Yet he’s a legacy character and fans don’t tolerate criticism of him.”

A third complained: “Oh god so am I! His misery and his unkempt look drains your energy just watching him. I can’t believe they’re getting rid of Debbie and keeping him, wrong move imo, I bloody love Debbie & Ronnie together, they could have kept her for years yet.”

Among Kevin’s most controversial moments on the soap include him faking prostate cancer last year in a desperate bid to stop wife Abi from leaving him.

He’d already beaten the illness but realised Abi was only staying with him because of his condition so decided to prolong it in a bid to win her back.

Back in 2010 he had an affair with best pal and colleague Tyrone Dobbs’ wife Molly, getting her pregnant in the process.

It wasn’t the first workplace love triangle he’d been involved in. In 1997 he romped with business partner Natalie Barnes, driving a wedge between him and wife Sally.

He also had a vicious streak when it came to ex Sally’s boyfriends after their split, often attacking them in a violent rage.

However, some viewers have defended him, insisting the soap wouldn’t be the same without glum Kevin on it.

One posted: “Kevin being miserable is an essential part of Corrie.”

Another said: “I enjoy Kevin. He’s been grumpy and surly for years, whether with his girls, or Sally, or Abi, and the ongoing contrast between his childish petulance and the preternaturally mature Jack is often pretty funny!”

Last month actor Michael Le Vell revealed he was left relieved when ITV bosses offered him a new contract to keep him on the soap beyond January’s Corriedale crossover special.

The star, who has played Kevin on the show for 40 years, admitted his contract was up for renewal in the New Year leading to speculation Kevin could be killed off in the show’s epic Emmerdale collaboration.

The Sun revealed he had been handed another 12-month deal which secured his place on the soap.

Speaking to The Mirror, Michael said: “You can never take the job for granted.

“My contract was due in January and I’ve just been offered a new one, so I can breathe a sigh of relief for another year.
