Betrayal on the Cobbles as Ronnie Bailey’s World Implodes After Debbie Webster’s Shocking Deception — A Love Story Torn Apart by Secrets, Lies, and a Devastating Truth

There’s always drama in Weatherfield, and recent weeks of Coronation Street have been no different. Amid Debbie Webster’s ongoing battle with dementia and a looming prison sentence, it was revealed that Carl was in fact her son, rather than her brother.

Carl doesn’t know this yet, though it has been confirmed that the news will be delivered during next week’s scenes. Naturally, this will change the very nature of their relationship, but Debbie also has other people to count on.

One of those is new husband Ronnie Bailey, who will be faced with a new parental role as opposed to that of a sibling. It’s a big change for everybody, and Sue Devaney, who plays Debbie, has shared just how she believes Ronnie will take the news.

“Debbie is now realising what she’s had to carry all these years,” said the actor, who first played the beloved character in 1984. “Getting married has made her realise, ‘you know what? This is my family now. And I maybe should have done this years ago.’”

“Ronnie’s had to take on a lot, hasn’t he?” she added. “It’s a good job he’s chilled. Debbie just keeps bringing up new problems. Now it is, ‘by the way, I’ve got a son.’ Ronnie is really grounded, luckily.

“Because Debbie is the way she is, she believes that Ronnie is not going anywhere, through the thick of it all. She’s thinking, ‘I need to make sure Carl’s alright.’ And in that, either Ronnie’s gonna be there [or] he’s not gonna be there. Chances are he [will be].”

While Ronnie will have a new role, Debbie still has to patch things up with her brother Kevin, who has been having his own problems with his marriage. Despite their period of estrangement, Devaney is confident that Debbie and Kevin will smooth things over.

“There’s always a strong bond there,” she explained. “Kevin’s not going anywhere. And I think it’s that forgiveness, isn’t it? But it’s his love for her that’s been making him fight for the truth, even though she didn’t want him to be fighting for the truth.

“I mean, it’s tough for him,  isn’t it? Because it’s, like, not just the fact that his brother stole his wife – [it’s also] that his brother now turns out to be his nephew. It’s a lot. It’s great soap storylines though!”
