Emmerdale star Oliver Farnworth shares one big regret over Corriedale outcomes

Emmerdale‘s Oliver Farnworth has shared his one big regret, after his character John Sugden was killed off in the Corriedale crossover. The actor, who first joined the soap in August 2024, said that he didn’t want his character to be killed off.

Speaking with the Daily Star, Farnworth said: “To do the story and the character justice, it’s important villains get their comeuppance – that’s what people like to see.

“For me, personally, I wanted to stay at Emmerdale forever. I loved it there. So selfishly, I would say I wish he hadn’t been killed off.”

Revealing what it was like shooting his final scenes in the crossover, the actor noted that it was “so exciting to be part of” the episode, which aired on Monday, 5 January.

Uniting the casts of Coronation Street and Emmerdale, the Corriedale special centred on a multi-collision crash which impacted characters from both soaps. John was one of two characters to be killed off, and during the episode, John’s sister Victoria Sugden was seen standing over his lifeless body in the woods.

A scene which left fans wondering what had happened to the murderous John, Emmerdale offered a explanation in the following episode. After Aaron shared his concerns that his partner Robert Sugden may have done the deed, Victoria defended her brother and blurted out a confession.

A scuffle happened between Victoria and John, and Victoria – desperate to defend herself against John – grabbed his syringe full of drugs and plunged it into his neck, killing him.

While Victoria, Aaron and Robert agreed that the truth should stay buried, what they didn’t realise was that Joe Tate had been close by on the night of John’s death and had filmed Victoria’s actions in the woods.

With a blackmail storyline about to unfold, Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw said: “The truth about John’s death will be revealed, as Victoria’s clever deception, making John’s death look like suicide, will unravel.

“Evil Joe Tate knows the truth and has damning video evidence which he plans to use to get what he wants from the Sugdens, potentially taking control of Butler’s Farm. Robert is also in the thick of it, trying to save Victoria by planting evidence.”
