This article contains spoilers for tonight’s episode of EastEnders, which airs on BBC One at 7.30pm or can be streamed now on iPlayer.

Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara) has done some truly despicable things recently. After losing his families fortune when Bernie Taylor (Clair Norris) cleared out the Panesar-empire bank accounts before fleeing, he was desperate to continue being seen as a provider for his family, and sought out Nicola Mitchell (Laura Doddington) for a drugs contact to make some quick cash.

Despite grave warnings from Nicola, Ravi jumped both feet first into his dirty new operation, with his actions growing darker and more sinister as he sunk further and further into the dangerous drug world.

From creating the drug ring itself, bringing it to the Square alongside his deeply dangerous lieutenant, Okie Okyere (Aayan Ibikunle Shoderu), ensnaring Harry Mitchell (Elijah Holloway) and cuckooing vulnerable Kojo Asare (Dayo Koleosho), Ravi has certainly been an incredibly bad boy.

His bad karma is coming thick and fast, though. When Okie’s extreme actions, imprisoning and feeding drugs to Harry while terrorising Kojo, lead to them braving an escape. Now free, they told the police everything, including Ravi’s role as the top dog of the syndicate.

Terrified of the prospect of losing his family, especially as he’d previously promised his beloved Priya Nandra-Hart (Sophie Khan Levy) that he’d leave his criminality in the past.

When Ravi got arrested for his role in the drug enterprise, Priya was convinced that he was innocent, though his love for her convinced him to confess to his crimes and agree to work as a police informant in exchange for no prison time.

Unfortunately, his admission meant breaking the hearts of his family. Priya was (quite rightly) disgusted that Ravi would use and abuse a vulnerable adult like Kojo, while daughter Avani Nandra-Hart (Aaliyah James) is devastated that her dad is the reason for her friend Barney Mitchell (Lewis Bridgeman) ignoring her, after what her he did to her brother and his dad, Teddy Mitchell (Roland Manookian) being imprisoned for Okie’s murder. Ravi’s son, Davinder ‘Nugget’ Gulati (Juhaim Rasul Choudhury), is equally as angry at him.

Yesterdays episode saw Suki Panesar-Unwin (Balvinder Sopal) come to Ravi’s defence as Priya and their kids couldn’t bare to look at him, while new police handler Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) hounded him for information on those higher up in the drug chain.

Though Suki’s words took effect, Priya walked in just as Ravi called his boss. Though he was looking to get evidence against him for Jack, he chose to keep it a secret in order to keep Priya safe, and allowed her to believe he had every intention of dealing again. Crestfallen Priya told Suki and Eve Panesar-Unwin (Heather Peace) what she’d heard.

While Suki maintained a loyalty to Ravi, Eve’s words hit home when she asked her wife if she’d envisioned raising the child they’re planning to adopt under the same roof as a drug dealer.

Meanwhile, Ravi continued to keep Priya in the dark over his deal with the police, insisting that it wasn’t as simple as walking away from the group he’s found himself so deeply entangled with. Producing a picture of Avani and Nugget that he’d previously received as a warning, he worked to convince Priya how much danger their family was in if he suddenly cut ties with the gang.

Devastated, angry and wounded in equal measures, Priya accepted what Ravi had to say, though while he attempted to console his children, Suki entered with a majorly grave face.

Explaining that her loyalty had to lie with Eve and the child they want to adopt, Suki explained that Ravi would have to leave. Despite the major blow, Ravi was graceful and understood her position.

A knock on the door changed everything, though. As a shaken Eve answered, a collection of (incredibly huge) men filed into the Panesar’s living room, informing Ravi that his boss had received his prior message and wanted a face to face meeting. With the kids terrified, Priya tearing up and Suki and Eve looking on helplessly, Ravi kissed his kids goodbye, clearly aware that this could potentially be the last time he sees them for a while…or ever.
