It should be no surprise that, as Days of Our Lives heads into its 60th Anniversary celebration in November, the show and the actors have been looking back at the past six decades of drama. And one of the greatest things about Days of Our Lives is the amount of longtime veterans who are still with the show after decades of love, adventures and danger!
James Reynolds will have played Abe for a stunning 44 years come the end of October, and he sat down for Days of Our Lives‘ official Instagram account to reflect back on soaps’ heyday in the ’80s and early ’90s. It was an era where the stars couldn’t even go to dinner without being mobbed by fans, and one which introduced one of the most nefarious villains of all time: Stefano DiMera! Visit Advertiser websiteen, Abe’s dealing with the very real possibility of Theo being corrupted by the DiMera family. Theo’s getting a taste of power and, likely, greed and those are exactly the things that made Stefano so dangerous.
As Reynolds explained in the Instagram video, “Our show, probably without intending to be so, became part of that ’80s, ‘Greed is good’ kind of thing. And that was the introduction of Stefano. You know, the charming evil man, but… Stefano’s existence was for power and money, much like what was going on in the ’80s and around the world at that time. So we kind of reflected that, but we also created the supercouples.”

Stefano, in other words, was very much created as the product of the times, in an era where movies like Michael Douglas’ Wall Street peeled back the curtain of greed. Of course, not even Stefano could live forever, which perhaps says something about money can’t buy everything, especially when it comes to something like living forever! Then again…
We have been walking on eggshells ever since the season preview to find out if Stefano is actually coming back again in some way, and what Tony’s plan is for his dearly departed father. Hopefully, that’s coming up sooner, rather than later. In the meantime, check out all that Reynolds has to say below about the Golden Age of Soaps and how Days of Our Lives won a legion of devoted fans thanks to its mix of romance and adventure — and as he mentions above, created some of daytime’s most enduring supercouples!
If Stefano does come back in some way, we certainly don’t see Abe taking that lying down. With how upset he is with Theo’s new role as DiMera Enterprises’ CEO, we can only imagine the lengths Abe would go to to make sure the villain doesn’t lay a finger on his son — literally or figuratively! Because while greed may be good for Stefano, Abe has always been made of far sterner, more honorable stuff.
And there’s no way he’ll let Theo be seduced by the same dark impulses that made his grandfather such a monster!
