ANGER ERUPTS! EastEnders fans left furious as crucial detail missing from character’s exit

A hugely emotional exit aired during Thursday’s episode of EastEnders, as Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) left Walford with her two young children, Arthur and Hope.

The EE icon decided to leave Albert Square behind, having found it difficult to live there and be reminded of late partner Martin Fowler (James Bye) constantly.

Having received an offer from brother Sean (Robert Kazinsky) to go and live with him in Brazil, where he’s opened a new restaurant, Stacey decided to head off and leave the rest of the Slaters behind.

Stacey’s final scene saw her head to the airport in a black cab with her two youngest children, while listening to a voicemail left by ex-lover Max Branning (Jake Wood).

Soap fans were left emotional by Stacey’s exit, despite knowing it’s only temporary, but many were also left frustrated as EE bosses had failed to use Julia’s Theme during her last scene, instead opting for the soap’s usual theme tune.

Julia’s Theme is a slow build-up played on piano, used usually after a death, particulary emotional event or the departure of a significant character in EastEnders. It was named after one of the soap’s creators, Julia Smith.

“What a rubbish goodbye for such an iconic character. She’ll obvs be back but how underwhelming. Not even a Julia’s theme #eastenders,” one fan fumed on X, as another asked: “#EastEnders why didn’t Stacy get a Julia theme for that cab?”

A third EE viewer said: “Where was Julia’s theme for Stacey? Criminal!! @bbceastenders #EastEnders,” and someone else added: “What do you mean Stacey didn’t get Julia’s theme?!?! #EastEnders.”

However, some fans pointed out that by not using Julia’s Theme, EE bosses could be hinting that Stacey will only be gone for a short period of time. It’s been reported that actress Lacey Turner is only taking some time out from the BBC soap.

Stacey’s decision to depart also sparked the exit of Max, who returned to the Square for estranged daughter Lauren’s (Jacqueline Jossa) wedding to Peter (Thomas Law).

Despite having shared his desire to stick around and spend time with his children, one Stacey rejected Max’s offer to rekindle their romance, he opted to leave Walford too.

However, Max is set to return later this year and will stick around for good, yet details of his next appearance are yet to be confirmed.
